Fred Volkmar, M.D. is Director of the Yale Child Study Center and a world renowned expert on autism. He is the
primary author of the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-IV section on autism and pervasive developmental
disorders. Dr. Volkmar will be discussing his new book, A Practical Guide to Autism: What Every Parent,
Family Member, and Teacher Needs to Know, published August 2009 by Wiley and co-authored by his wife,
Lisa Wiesner, M.D., who is a pediatrician. Copies of his book will be made available for purchase and
signing. He will also talk about recent advances in research and treatment.
