Residents begin their training within the Yale Department of Pediatrics in order to best facilitate this immersion in medical care at a tertiary children's hospital. With October and November reserved for two of the neurology, child neurology and adolescent psychiatry rotations, residents otherwise continuously complete 6 months of general pediatrics training including 4 inpatient months, one emergency pediatrics month, and a pediatrics acute care month. In March, residents complete their second neurology rotation. The final rotation of the year consists of 3 months on an inpatient adult psychiatry unit at the Veterans Administration Connecticut Mental Health Center where the two Integrated residents have a chance to work together and with other general psyciatry interns. Both research time (a half day a week during pediatrics training) and adolescent Psychiatry begin in this year, beginning the formation of the child psychiatry research identity.
